The Origami Crane symbolises loyality, honour and longevity. It is said that if you fold a thousand cranes all your heart's desires will come true.
In Hiroshima there is a memorial for all the children who lost their lives from the effects of radiation from the atomic bomb. Sadako Sasaki was one of the young girls who suffered effects having been exposed to the radiation of the bomb as an infant. While she was in hospital she relentlessley folded origami cranes in the hope she would save her own and other's lives.
